Before cooking with cannabis, keep a few basics in mind:
- Decarboxylation first. Raw cannabis needs to be gently heated before it becomes active in food , this converts THCA/CBDA into THC/CBD.
- Start low and go slow. Edibles take longer to take effect than inhaled cannabis (often 30–90 minutes), and it’s easy to underestimate dose before it kicks in.
- Fat helps absorption. Cannabinoids are fat-soluble, so infusions made with butter, oil, or other fats tend to work more predictably than water-based ones.
- Label everything. Infused food should be clearly marked and stored well out of reach of children, guests, and pets.
